The Guatemala Stove Project was founded in response to an identified need for masonry cook stoves in the Mayan villages of the Guatemalan Altiplano (Western Highlands). These subsistence farmers lack the material resources to build them for themselves.

Home - revised 6132675202 infoguatemalastoveproject. org Since 1999 8116 cookstoves have been built for families as well as 52 school cookstoves for a total of 8170. The cookstove saves 2 to 3 tons of carbon emissions annually so that over the average 10 year lifespan 20 to 30 tons of carbon emissions are avoided. Donating a stove offsets more CO2 than most of us produce in a year.

GSP volunteers in Ottawa held a successful fundraiser in support of bursaries for girls to attend middle and high school. Friends dropped by for tea and treats, lots of conversation and the opportunity to browse a large collection of books and take home as many as they could carry. Educating girls is invaluable in reducing global warming and enhancing womes’ roles as stewards of the land.
