Fondation Droit au Talent

Fondation Droit au Talent is a Canadian nonprofit organization established in September 2000. The foundation focuses on providing financial support for the Music Arts-Education program within the Laval School Board (CSDL) in Quebec, Canada. The mission of Fondation Droit au Talent is to ensure access to high-quality musical education for all children with musical talent, regardless of their family's financial resources.

History and Purpose

The foundation was created by a group of concerned parents due to a lack of sufficient government funding for music arts programs in Laval schools. Initially focused on one school, the foundation expanded to support music programs across all relevant schools within the CSDL. Its primary goal is to foster musical development among children by offering them access to professional instruction within the public school system.

Activities and Programs

Fondation Droit au Talent organizes various fundraising events to support its mission. One notable event is the annual "Musicothon," which gathers students and ensembles from Laval schools to perform and raise funds for the music programs. Additionally, the foundation has established a musical instrument loan program, acquiring significant amounts of musical equipment, including violins, to lend to students in the program.

Impact

Every year, approximately 600 students selected based on their talent and interest in music benefit from the foundation's initiatives. The support from organizations like Power Corporation underscores the importance of music education in fostering self-confidence and personal growth among young people. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, the Music Arts program supported by Fondation Droit au Talent will be offered in four schools: Écoles primaires des Cèdres and Marcel-Vaillancourt, and secondary schools Poly-Jeunesse and Mont-de-La Salle.
