CANADIAN CENTRE FOR ABUSE AWARENESS
Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness - helping to reduce the incidence and impact of abuse for men, women and children through education and awareness.
Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness
The Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness (CCAA) is a national, charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of abuse in Canada. Founded in 1993, it operates with support from community and corporate partners, and relies solely on private donations without government funding.
Mission and Activities
The CCAA's mission is to significantly reduce the incidence and impact of abuse through education and public awareness campaigns. It is a national leader in developing programs aimed at preventing abuse and advocating for the rights of those who have been abused. The organization focuses on creating survivor-friendly environments that facilitate healing for victims of abuse.
Programs and Impact
A key area of focus for the CCAA is addressing the issues of adults who were sexually abused as children, exemplified by its work on the sex abuse scandal at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. The Centre supports over 130 organizations across Canada, including children’s services, victims services, and shelters, impacting the lives of more than 200,000 individuals affected by abuse annually.
Leadership
Ellen Campbell, a survivor of abuse herself, is the CEO and Founder of the CCAA. She has been instrumental in translating her personal experience into hope for others, establishing the Centre as a prominent force in abuse prevention and recovery across Canada.
Initiatives and Community Engagement
The CCAA engages in various initiatives and campaigns to raise awareness about neglect and abuse. It supports community programs and provides accessible support, healing, and empowerment for adult survivors, their families, and caregivers. Through its advocacy efforts, the Centre aims to foster a society where abuse is acknowledged and addressed comprehensively.
