SASKATCHEWAN ASSOCIATION OF REHABILITATION CENTRES

The Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres (SARC) is a Canadian nonprofit organization based in Saskatchewan, dedicated to supporting community-based organizations that assist people experiencing disabilities. It serves as a provincial association representing approximately 100 member organizations committed to providing support services that enable individuals to live life to their full potential within their communities.

Overview

SARC has a history spanning over five decades in supporting nonprofits by offering training, consulting, leadership, and various services to strengthen their capacities. The association focuses on advocacy, education, and the development of personal and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. It plays a vital role in assisting job seekers with disabilities to prepare for, obtain, and maintain employment, supporting both its members and other service providers across the province.

Vision and Mission
  • Vision: Persons of all abilities reaching their full potential and enjoying full citizenship.
  • Mission: To provide vision, leadership, and support through advocacy, education, and the development of personal and employment opportunities.
Programs and Services

Among its notable initiatives, SARC operates EmployLink and SARCAN Recycling programs. SARCAN Recycling, in particular, is a prominent component of the association’s work, with a recovery rate exceeding 84%, recycling over 500 million containers annually, and diverting more than 40 million pounds of material from Saskatchewan landfills each year. While some SARCAN depots are managed by SARC member organizations, others are run directly by SARCAN itself.

Community and Indigenous Relations

SARC acknowledges the traditional lands it operates on, which include Treaty 2, Treaty 4, Treaty 6, and Treaty 10 territories. The organization pays respect to the First Nations peoples whose traditional lands encompass these areas, including the Cree, Saulteaux, Assiniboine, Anishanabek, Dene, Dakota, and the Métis people.

Impact

Through its comprehensive support to member organizations and leadership in recycling and employment services, the Saskatchewan Association of Rehabilitation Centres contributes significantly to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities in Saskatchewan and fostering sustainable community development.
