Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc.
Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc. is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to the rescue, care, and adoption of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. The organization operates as a volunteer-led entity, working collaboratively with rescue partners to provide dogs with second chances for happy and healthy lives.
Mission and Activities
The core mission of Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc. is to rescue dogs in need, primarily Chihuahuas, and to find them loving and responsible homes. The organization emphasizes education about responsible pet ownership and strives for inclusivity and diversity among its adopters and volunteers. It firmly believes that every dog—regardless of age, size, or ability—deserves a happy heart, wagging tail, and new beginnings.
The rescue operates on the traditional territories of several Indigenous Nations, including the Anishinaabe, Mississaugas of the New Credit, and Haudenosaunee Confederacy lands, acknowledging and honoring the stewardship of these Indigenous peoples.
Adoption Process
Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc. regularly transports adopted and foster dogs from Texas to Ontario, with a primary pickup location in Ancaster, Ontario. Prospective adopters must complete an online application to become pre-approved. Upon approval, adopters can request holds on available dogs and are supported by volunteer adoption coordinators throughout the process.
The adoption fee in Ontario, applicable to both adults and puppies, is set at $850. This fee covers vaccinations, spaying or neutering, veterinary care, microchipping, transportation from Texas to Ontario, and general care while the dog is in rescue. Puppies receive two booster vaccinations as part of their care. Adopters may need to travel to Ontario to pick up their dog unless the dog is fostered locally, in which case pickup occurs at the foster home.
Volunteer and Community Involvement
As a volunteer-driven organization, Texas Chihuahua Rescue, Canada Inc. depends on donations and community support to maintain its rescue operations and care for the animals. The group encourages donations to help fund medical care, transportation, and ongoing care for the rescue dogs. Volunteers play an integral role in fostering dogs, organizing transports, and aiding in educational outreach.
