Trillium Health Partners
Trillium Health Partners (THP) is a leading Canadian nonprofit organization that operates one of Ontario's largest community-based acute care hospitals. It was formed through the amalgamation of multiple health care facilities and serves the diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. The organization is recognized for its commitment to providing exceptional patient care, fiscal responsibility, and innovation in the health care sector.
Overview
Trillium Health Partners comprises three main hospital sites:
- Credit Valley Hospital
- Mississauga Hospital
- Queensway Health Centre
Together, these sites offer a comprehensive range of acute care services, as well as specialized community-based programs. The hospitals collectively provide care to over one million residents in Peel and West Toronto, as well as patients from across Ontario.
Services and Specializations
THP is distinguished as one of Canada's largest academically affiliated health centers and is known for its highly specialized regional programs. These include:
- Advanced Cardiac Surgery
- Geriatric Mental Health Services
- Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Services
- Neurosurgery
- Palliative Care
- Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
- Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Services
- Specialized Geriatric Services
- Stroke Care
- Vascular Services
The organization also features a model ambulatory care center and operates the largest free-standing day surgery center in North America. Core clinical programs encompass general medicine, surgery, emergency care, mental health, rehabilitation, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and cardiac services.
Mission and Community Commitment
The mission of Trillium Health Partners centers on delivering the highest quality of accessible, patient-centered care at the lowest possible cost. The organization aims to create an exceptional experience for every patient and visitor, emphasizing professional, compassionate, and innovative health care services.
Trillium Health Partners Foundation
Supporting the health system is the Trillium Health Partners Foundation, a registered charity dedicated to raising critical funds to address the highest priority needs of the hospitals and programs within THP. The foundation was established in 2013 following the merger of The Trillium Health Centre Foundation and The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation.
The Foundation manages philanthropic initiatives that fund site-specific and system-wide projects, research, equipment acquisition, and infrastructure development. In recent years, it has seen unprecedented generosity, highlighted by a historic $105 million donation from philanthropist Peter Gilgan and The Peter Gilgan Foundation—the largest single gift to a hospital in Canadian history. This donation supports significant infrastructure projects including the Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and the expansion of the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre.
Impact and Recognition
Trillium Health Partners is recognized regionally and nationally for its performance and innovation in health care delivery. It balances fiscal responsibility with high standards of clinical care, making it a leader in Ontario’s health care landscape.
