Rural Ontario Institute
The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) is a charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the vitality of rural and northern Ontario communities. Mission and Values
The mission of the Rural Ontario Institute is to build vision, voice, and leadership in rural and northern Ontario. It envisions thriving and vibrant communities, a vision it supports by promoting diverse perspectives, collaboration, respectful communication, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. Continuous improvement and excellence are core values that guide the organization's activities.
Programs
ROI is renowned for its Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP), which has been in operation for over 39 years. This flagship program is designed to equip agricultural leaders with the skills needed to tackle complex challenges within their communities. Another significant initiative is the Rural Change Makers Program, aimed at empowering young leaders to drive meaningful change in rural areas. This program has received support from various partners, including the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness and Farm Credit Canada.
Community Support Initiatives
In addition to leadership development, ROI supports communities through a range of resources and tools. These include:
- Rural Community Wellbeing Tool: Provides insights into community wellbeing through factsheets and dashboards.
- Rural Housing Information System: A centralized data tool designed to address the housing and homelessness challenges in rural areas.
- Rural Rebound Case Studies: These are real-life stories highlighting resilience and recovery strategies during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Partnership Projects: Initiatives such as the Ontario Community Transportation Network, webinars, and events that foster collaboration among communities and stakeholders.
