The Airdrie Community Choir is comprised of approximately 40 members from Airdrie and the surrounding communities. We put on two main concerts each year. The Airdrie Community Choir Association
The Airdrie Community Choir Association is a non-profit organization based in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada. It operates as a registered charity with the business registration number 131695207RR0001 and is governed by specific bylaws.
History
Established in 1985 by a group of 35 founding members, the choir has grown to average about 50 members annually. Over the years, it has become a cornerstone of the local performing arts scene, fostering community spirit through music.
Mission
The association's mission is to inspire a sense of community within Airdrie and surrounding areas by promoting adult choral music. It achieves this through various performances and events throughout the year.
Activities
The choir is a non-auditioned group, open to members from Airdrie and its surrounding communities. It hosts two major concerts annually, as well as participating in community events such as the Airdrie Festival of Lights, local Remembrance Day celebrations, and the CBC Knox Carol Fest. Additionally, the choir organizes Singfest, a local community Christmas concert, and regularly performs at senior's homes in the area.
In recent years, the choir has also experimented with virtual performances, creating a platform for members across Alberta and even from the UK to participate during challenging times.
Leadership
The Airdrie Community Choir is led by experienced music professionals. Notably, Justin Macosky, a teacher, performer, composer, and recording artist, has been instrumental in guiding the choir. Macosky's background in choral music and performance has enriched the choir's offerings.
Governance
The association is governed by a Board of Directors, elected annually at the general meeting held in October. This governance structure ensures the choir operates efficiently while staying true to its mission.
Fundraising
As a registered charity, the Airdrie Community Choir Association benefits from donations that support its activities and community outreach. Donations contribute to maintaining the choir's role in enhancing community harmony and cultural engagement.
