Overview

MOSAIC-Newcomer Family Resource Network Incorporated is a Canadian nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting newcomer families, particularly parents and primary caregivers. Established to consolidate and expand community-based language classes, the organization focuses on providing comprehensive services that foster integration, confidence, and independence among newcomers.

Mission

MOSAIC operates as a rights-based organization, aiming to equip newcomers with additional language and parenting skills. This enables them to actively participate in community life, contributing to and benefiting from their new surroundings.

History

Community-based language programs have been integral to Winnipeg since 1983. In 2009, five independent language programs merged to form MOSAIC-Newcomer Family Resource Network. This merger was a response to the need for coordinated community-based language classes identified by the Adult Language Training Branch of the Province of Manitoba.

Services

• Language Instruction: MOSAIC offers the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program, which is federally funded and provides quality childcare services on-site. These programs are strategically located in or near high settlement communities to maximize accessibility for newcomers.
• Parenting and Settlement Support: The organization facilitates parenting programs and family literacy groups, often led by trained and mentored newcomers. Additionally, MOSAIC pioneered the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) program tailored for newcomers in Manitoba.
• Settlement Assistance: Two settlement workers are available to provide individual and group information services, ensuring newcomers have the necessary orientation and support to navigate their new communities effectively.
