Cochrane Temiskaming Children's Treatment Centre
The Cochrane Temiskaming Children's Treatment Centre (CT CTC) is a bilingual, not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing quality rehabilitation programs and services to children and youth with special needs. Funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, the centre operates under the registration number 118866870RR0001.
History
Established in 1979, the CT CTC has grown significantly from its initial small staff to over 40 employees working across six locations. This expansion reflects its commitment to serving a broader clientele more effectively.
Mission and Objectives
The primary mission of the CT CTC is to improve the lives of children and youth with physical, developmental, and communication challenges by delivering timely and responsive rehabilitation services. The centre aims to support these children in realizing their abilities, reaching their potential, and engaging fully within their communities. It employs a family-centered approach, partnering with families to ensure that all interventions are tailored to meet the specific needs of each child.
Services
The CT CTC offers a comprehensive range of core services, including:
- Occupational Therapy: Focused on helping children develop the skills necessary for daily functioning and participating in activities.
- Physiotherapy: Designed to improve physical strength and mobility.
- Speech-Language Pathology: Aids children in developing communication skills.
- Recreation Therapy: Encourages participation in leisure activities to enhance overall well-being.
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Support: Provides specialized assistance for children affected by FASD.
- Social Work and Coordinated Service Planning: Ensures that families receive integrated support services.
- Urgent Response under the Ontario Autism Program: Offers timely interventions for children with autism.
Additionally, the centre collaborates with other healthcare organizations to manage specialized clinics, such as the Complex Care Clinic, which offers consultation services from major pediatric hospitals.
Operational Area
The CT CTC serves children and youth from birth to age 19 (or 21 if they are in school) residing in the districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming, as well as communities in the James Bay area.
SmartStart Hub
The centre is designated as one of Ontario's SmartStart Hubs, providing a streamlined pathway for families to access various developmental services. This initiative facilitates early intervention by connecting families with relevant resources as soon as possible, though it is not the sole entry point for accessing services.
Partnerships and Collaborations
The CT CTC collaborates closely with community service providers to ensure that children receive services as close to their homes as possible. It also partners with pediatric healthcare organizations to offer specialized medical advice and consultation. These collaborative efforts enhance the centre's capacity to provide comprehensive care to its diverse clientele.
